International Jury of directors for Venezia 64 has been finalized
The International jury for Venezia 64 has been finalized, it will be composed entirely of directors for the 75th anniversary, just like the 50th anniversary in 1982.
The members of the Jury for Venezia 64 –all important figures in the Venice Film Festival’s recent history– are:
director Catherine Breillat, one of the most important names in today’s French cinema, and who has been in competition several times at leading international festivals and was present in Venice in 2001 with Brief Crossing (Brève traversée);
Oscar-winning New Zealand director Jane Campion, who has been a leading figure three times at the Festival – in 1990 with An Angel at My Table (1990, Jury Grand Prix), in 1996 with The Portrait of a Lady and in 1999 with Holy Smoke;
the Italian director, Emanuele Crialese, winner of the Silver Lion at the 2006 edition of the Venice Film Festival with Golden Door;
the Mexican director now firmly established in Hollywood, Alejandro González Iñárritu, and who participated in the Mostra in 2002 with an episode from 11’09”01 – September 11, and in 2003 with 21 Grams (for which Sean Penn won the Coppa Volpi for Best Actor);
the director of Turkish origin, Ferzan Ozpetek, author of successes such as The Ignorant Fairies (Le fate ignoranti, 2001), Facing Windows (La finestra di fronte, 2003) and Saturno contro (2007);
the Dutch director, Paul Verhoeven, in competition in the 2006 Festival with Black Book (Zwartboek), which followed on from his participation in 1985 with Flesh+Blood.
This year´s Jury will be chaired by Zhang Yimou, after the proposal of 64th Venice Film Festival Director Marco Müller, was approved by the Board of Directors of La Biennale di Venezia, chaired by Davide Croff.
On the closing evening of the Festival, 8th September 2007, the Jury will award the following prizes to feature films competing in the Venezia 64 section: the Golden Lion for best film, the Silver Lion for best director, the Special Jury Prize, the Coppa Volpi for Best Actor, the Coppa Volpi for Best Actress, the “Marcello Mastroianni” Award for Best Young Actor or Actress, the Osella for Best Technical Contribution, and the Osella for Best Screenplay.
